Plastic water bottles, Pepsi cans, Coors bottles, kid's Arrowhead water bottles, wine bottles, newspapers, macaroni and cheese boxes, plastic grocery bags, all cluttered the house in various places.  They were being “stored up” until they constituted a quantity big enough to be taken to the recycling container outside.   Some in the pantry, some on the counter, some under the sink, some next to the trashcan . . . a mess.

Recyclable materials are oftentimes tossed in the trash simply because recycling is not convenient and creates clutter. Clearly we need to clean up the way we recycle.

Jenny Gitlitz from the Container Recycling Institute said, "130 Billion beverage containers are sent to United States landfills each year!"   Ten billion are sent to California landfills alone.   The State of Hawaii consumes a total of about 800 thousand per year. This means California buries, in Mother Earth, 12 years worth of Hawaii’s total annual consumption every year!
